We have been sailing around Antigua since Ryan arrived on the island over a month ago, and decided that it was about time for us to take some time for some actual sailing and R&R.
So last week, we decided to hop on a weather window and head to Barbuda, a small island 35 nautical miles North of Antigua.
I had not sailed in about six months, so naturally, I decided that it was my turn to skipper Polar Seal.
We weren't the only one taking advantage of the good weather window...
Meet Lady Blue! A family sailing onboard a 43ft ketch. The kids put a lot of effort into sailing faster than us and were extatic when they beat us to Barbuda ;)
We had the best upwind sail I ever got to experience, with a sea swell of max 1 meter.
We arrived right on time for sundowners and a bonfire on the beach.
Hello from paradise! :)
Every night at 4PM, dinghies start to converge on the beach to hang out....
And admire the most spectacular sunsets...
Hi Barbuda, it's nice to meet you.
The next day, we headed for to THE must-do in Barbuda:
Shak-A-Kaï. A very sweet beach bar with the most stunning view of Princess Diana beach.
This is Enoch, Shaka-Kaï's founder and head of everything at the restaurant, together with our friends Andrew and Traci.
Enoch fishes lobsters in the morning and then grills them at night for whoever booked a lobster dinner the night before. He also blends the strongest and tastiest rum punches. In other words: it's my kind of place.
This sunchair was calling my name, and I answered...
Shak-A-Kaï
MIAM. I was too busy eating to take anymore photos of the lobster, but stay tuned for a fun video soon!
We left the beach after turning Shak-A-Kaï into a dance floor, and left Barbuda the next day to return to Antigua.
Unfortunately that night, we took a big roller over the dinghy, and quite a bit of my photo equipment (main camera, big microphone, two lenses, and my Osmo pocket, died in that moment. So until our insurance (hopefully!) approves our claim, I am cameraless.
