Monkey business in Gibraltar

Once we were done with our Atlantic crossing preparations in Almerimar, we headed straight to the doors of the Mediterranean and the Strait of Gibraltar.

Gibraltar is a place that holds a special place in our hearts, since it is where we learned how to sail back in 2016. Gibraltar is also the home of some of our coolest sailing friends: Targ and Tereza, on their beautiful 57 foot Nordia. You may follow them on Instagram already, but if you don't, don't miss their feed!

Gibraltar is notorious for its heavy ships traffic, the crazy currents and overfalls that make it difficult to navigate. But sailors also know that Gibraltar is a place where fuel is cheap and has therefore become a mandatory stop for anyone about to cross the Atlantic.

In other words: We were not going to leave Europe without waving Gibraltar a proper goodbye!

Arriving to Gibraltar after a night of very little sleep for Sophie, who took a full 5 hours watch between 1AM and 6AM.

To access Gibraltar from the Spanish border, you need to first cross Gibraltar Airport's runway. Now and then, the traffic across the runway has to stop to let a plane take off or land.

Casually crossing a runway, as you do!

In Gibraltar, an actual mermaid lives on the coolest boat around. Meet our drugboatdreams friends!

Casemates, at the entrance of Gibraltar's "old town".

Fort Gibraltar, on top of the "old town".

Cute facade in the old town.

Gibraltar has the CAKES! Targ and Tereza picking coffee and cakes.

I wanted to go for all of them.

Saying "see you later!" or as Targ puts it "Tereza looks amazing and there's the rest of us 😂

And that's why we're friends!

You have been warned....

... mutliple times

The real macaque of Gibraltar.

View from the cable car to the top of the rock.

And from the exit of the cable car!

Windy, you asked?

Gibraltar from up top.

Well hello there...

Macaques doing monkey business at the top of the rock.

I pushed my camera's zoom all the way to capture this momma macaque and her baby...

... and still got busted!

The cave of Saint Michael on top of the rock of Gibraltar is probably some of the coolest venue in the World.

Some of the stunning stalactites of the cave...

...and wrapped up our stay in Gibraltar by watching planes take off from the runway!
