Day 7: Halfway there!
Hello!
Many things are happening on the Polar Seal today. Much to report so let's get at it…
Today is the first day I really feel the tropical warmth. While this is a great thing I tend to spend most of my days in the cabin. I guess this will have to change or I'll need to create some type of homemade AC unit for below. (That would be pretty cool) . What is nice, is as the sun is out the solar is working again though with that said large clouds back are rolling up behind me.
On our first Atlantic passage, Sophie and I experience zero rain and squalls, zero, nothing. I have a feeling I won't be so lucky this time, however, I would rather have a bit of wind than no wind and flogging sails...
There is honestly nothing worst than flogging sails in the ocean. Is hard on everything, the sail, the rig, and the mind.
I have kicked out a reef in an effort to keep the boat speed up a bit (not sure it's helping) while doing that I noticed during my sail car repair when I put the baton back in the holder it was twisted. So I turned in to the wind, dropped the sail, did a quick fix, and now have her up again and flying.
There is also another sailboat in my general area. 46 ft heading the same direction but about 10 miles north. Just nice to know someone else is around.
Also, since my Spotify has died (apparently, I'm not the only one out here this has happened to, Spotify, I hope you're reading) I decided this morning I needed to create my own music.
So I got out the bongo drum I bought in cape Verde and create my first work of art "bongos for sail". It's about how I'll play the bongo if the gods fill my sails.
Original… if Jody is reading this (you got another hit on your hands, my friend). Honestly, I think the song worked cause since I stopped playing my flogging sails are back. I'm just not sure I can play the bongo drum for 7 days straight. Hummmmm
Last big bit of news… I should be hitting halfway in around 30 miles or generally dinner time here on the PS. My plan in celebration is to cook myself an amazing meal of IKEA frozen Swedish meatballs and mashed potatoes (also frozen IKEA). And for my halfway treat I have a pint of Ben and Jerry peanut butter cup ice cream. I have waited almost a month to eat that thing and tonight is the night.
I suspect I'll be arriving in port around the 2nd or 3rd… probably closer to 3rd unless Julian politely cosmicly orders winds between 18 and 20 the rest of the way.
It's all downhill from here….
