Day 5: Sleeping
Well, another day and the water never ends. It's amazing to me how much water there is in the world. Just on the surface itself, not to mention that where I am it's probably 6000ft deep, that's a lot of water.
Today the wind and waves have settled down a little. There is some larger ocean swell that will be around 24 hours but then it looks like I get a bit chunk of next week with very stable winds. With that said I loved the progress made over the last 48 hours. Polar seal has been flying.
One thing I have noticed a bit different on this trip than our first Atlantic crossing is that it's a lot more cloudy this time. It's probably just local weather systems causing it but it's is noticeable. I saw just a sliver of blue sky today and that's been about it on this trip…
It does not help the solar production but it does keep the cabin below a bit cooler as I like to hang out down there when I can…. though I know in a few days it will be too hot for that.
In my last post I mentioned my sleep patterns. Typically I head down below at dark, take a shower and put some Netflix on. I'll watch a few things while eating, do another round of emails and weather checking and then try to turn in around 9 or 930. Last night was my first really good night of sleep since I started out.
I seem to naturally wake every hour or two… I'll check the plotter and stick my head outside for a look around and head back to bed. So, sometimes it's my body's natural clock that gets me up, and others it is the sounds of sails banging, waves hitting the boat, or like last night, the radar alarm going off.
I had a tanker pass about 1nm in front of me. I could tell he saw me as it made a fairly drastic change in course. That said, I stayed awake until he was well clear of me and then headed back to bed. That's the schedule.
As the winds are dying a bit I fear they will be right on the line for flogging tonight so I might be up watching some slow boat speed and flapping sail… let's se.
For those wondering. I calculated my halfway point when I reach 43 deg W longitude. Hopefully, that's Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. All down I'll from there, right ;)
I'm longing to see Sophie. I will say since November we have only spent 3 weeks together… it is time we spend some together again.
Until tomorrow!
