Day 9, Part Two: News Flash — A Burger and a Beer (Almost)
This morning, we were informed by the wonderful people who turn these satellite tracker updates into blog posts (hi Erin and Liz!) that the majority of you guys reading our updates everyday heavily leaned in favor of us making a pitstop in Bermuda.
I was also informed that there were some good suggestions as to where to get the best burger and beer on the island in our comments, and it became increasingly difficult to shake off the idea of a mid-Atlantic escale (that's "stopover" for all non-french-speakers).
But the weather to continue east / northeast looks REALLY good right now, and the idea of missing out on this perfect strip of Westerlies across the Northern Atlantic also put a bit of pressure on us to continue.
So we remained indecisive for most part of the day, as we tried to navigate the area of very low wind around Bermuda under the power of our 30 year-old asymmetric spinnaker, the infamous “Blew” (check out an old video of ours called “Are spinnakers bad for relationships”?).
Blew was the underdog of the day, propulsing us at almost 5 knots in about 7 to 8 knots of wind in our most glorious spinnaker ride ever, and I took advantage of the smooth sail to take a massive snooze.
Ryan woke me up about an hour ago to tell me that Anett and he had reached an agreement, and that after our very own weather gods (Andy Schell and the famous Jen) approved of a quick break in Bermuda, we were to alter course and indeed make the pit stop. You can see Ryan's reaction to their agreement in the photo above!
Unfortunately, we made up our minds too late to arrive in time to have a burger and a beer tonight, as we didn’t want to run the engine all day in case we would continue towards the Azores.
We should make landfall in Bermuda around midnight today and go clear customs at 8:00 AM. So if any of you know of a good place to get breakfast, we shall follow your advice ;)
Bermuda, here we come!
